Vintage Guitars On Ebay

A guide to getting BARGAIN VINTAGE GUITARS ON eBAY!

As you already know, you can buy almost anything from eBay. Listed on the famous auction site are millions of things to buy, from phones to whole houses!

You’ve probably been to your local guitar store and found that they are charging a fortune for vintage guitars. The cheaper option is eBay, as you will most likely be buying vintage guitars on ebay directly from a private seller rather than a shop.

How to get your DREAM VINTAGE GUITAR for a really low price using eBay

(and any other item that you want to buy)

I use a few techniques to find the guitar I want to buy (this works for any item, not just guitars or vintage guitars).

Go to eBay and login to your user account, or create one if you haven’t got one. Once you are logged in you can do a completed listing search to see the kind of price you should expect to pay for your guitar.

Next to the search button, click ‘advanced search’, then make sure that ‘completed listings only’ is ticked. Type in the guitar you want (for example, 'vintage guitars on ebay' and then click search/hit enter.

The listings that have sold will show up, any in red didn’t sell or the seller ended the listing early (maybe someone offered them cash to take it off eBay?). The ones in green sold for the amount shown. This easy search will give you an idea of which guitars match your budget and how much you should enter as a maximum bid.

My second technique is to NEVER ever bid on an item until the very last minute of the auction. This is known as auction sniping and some eBayers don’t like it, but you’re allowed to do it.

If you bid early on, another bidder will then outbid you, pushing up the price that you will pay. If you wait until the last 10 seconds to bid, then no one has a chance to outbid you. I once left it until the last 3 seconds to bid as I had a lot of competition. I wouldn’t advise doing this if you have a slightly unreliable internet connection - best to bid safely around 10 - 20 seconds before the end.

There are also other things you should watch out for when there are very popular vintage guitars on eBay. Often these models may get bought before the auction has ended. If you really want the item, see if the seller would take an offer - the normal way to do this is to ask if they have a Buy It Now price.

How to find the vintage guitars that everyone else is missing

Using the search box on eBay try entering misspellings of the guitar that you want. Some sellers do not proof read their listings and because of this no one finds the item and it doesn't sell. Imagine if you were the only person to bid on it and you got it for the starting price - it would probably save you hundreds!

A useful site to use for misspellings is Goofbay, they cover all of the eBay sites in different countries around the world and have an automatic misspelling search and free auction sniping program.
