Scale Diagrams for Guitar

I have put together some scale diagrams for guitar. Getting the basics right is the best way to start. If you know how to play these scales then you will be able to play some amazing guitar solos!

The Minor Pentatonic Scale (originally from China!)

The Blues Scale (adapted from the Minor Pentatonic)

As you can see the stars indicate the added notes of the scale to blues from the minor pentatonic.

Using these basic scales is just the start. Once you have mastered these two scales, you can then move on to using the 5 positions of the Minor Pentatonic Scale and also combine many more techniques, including string bends, hammer ons and pull-offs!

This sounds complicated at first, but is in fact extremely easy as I show on the minor pentatonic guitar lick page. Make sure to master at least the minor pentatonic before moving on.

The main reason that guitarists like Hendrix and Van Halen are so good is because they concentrated on getting the basic scales right first.
