Minor Pentatonic Guitar Lick

Soloing using a minor pentatonic guitar lick is easier if you know all of the minor pentatonic scale positions. It is best to start by just learning position 1, then moving on to 2 etc. As you learn each scale position, try to combine it with the previous one.

The simplest way to show you what the scale positions look like is by using the diagram below. As you can see, if position 1 starts at fret one, then the first note of position 2 starts on fret 4. Each position overlaps the last one, so it is easy to shift positions mid solo.

There is no need to cram all of the positions into one solo, but by knowing each position layout you will be able to play the note you want without having to stretch your fingers all over the fret board.

If you a playing in F minor then you can use the diagram as it is. If you are playing in a different key then you will have to move the positions. For example if you are playing in G, position 1 starts on the 3rd fret, so the first note of position 2 will start on fret 6.
