Guitar Bar Chord

A guitar bar chord opens up a new level of playing. If you have mastered the E Major chord shape then you are ready to learn to play barre chords.

By using your 1st finger and placing it across all of the strings on a fret, you can play the E major chord shape (or any other chord shape) at any position on the guitar. This makes it much easier to play songs without having to move your hand all the way across the fretboard.

Chord diagrams for barre chords look similar to normal chord diagrams, except you may find it looks like you are meant to have 6 fingers! The circles on the first fret represent your first finger -

Also, if you take your 2nd finger off 3rd the string while playing an E Major shape barre chord, you will be playing an E Minor barre chord - easy!
