Guitar D Drop Tuning

Tuning your guitar to D drop tuning (also known as ‘dropped d’) is very simple.

All you have to do is detune the Low E String (6th string) down 1 whole tone – from E to D. The best way to do this is either by using a chromatic tuner, or by plucking the 4th string (D string) and then pluck and tune the Low E string down to match it.

It may take a few tries to get it sounding in tune, but once you have done it once it only gets easier!

There’s more info on tuning in my power chord video.

Using D dropped tuning you can play power chords all the way up the neck using just one finger – rock out! This means complex riffs can be strummed out with very little effort. Back to tuning from D Drop Tuning
